Privacy Policy
Beside Birth ("Beside Birth", "we", "us") provides supportive education and content for pregnancy, birth, and the fourth trimester. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our websites (besidebirth.com and app.besidebirth.com) or joining our list, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Information you give us — your email address when you sign up or start a trial; any messages you send us. If you subscribe, your payment is processed by our payment provider (see below); we do not store your full card details.
- Information collected automatically — basic usage and device information (such as pages viewed, actions taken, approximate location from your IP, browser type) and a small amount of information stored in your browser (for example, to remember your trial and preferences).
2. How we use your information
- To provide and personalize the companion and its content;
- To manage your free trial, subscription, and access;
- To send you the emails you signed up for (welcome, resources, updates) — you can unsubscribe at any time;
- To measure and improve our content and to run and measure our advertising;
- To respond to you and provide support;
- To keep our services secure and comply with the law.
3. Cookies & tracking
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies: essential storage to run the site and remember your trial; first-party analytics to understand how our funnel performs; and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure and optimize our ads. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Where required, we ask for your consent.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us operate, under agreements that protect your data:
- Systeme.io — email list & delivery;
- Stripe — payment processing (Stripe handles your card data directly);
- Meta Platforms — advertising & measurement (Meta Pixel);
- Vercel — website hosting;
- Upstash — storage for our first-party analytics.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process your information based on: your consent (e.g., marketing emails, non-essential cookies); performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for); and our legitimate interests (improving and securing our services, and measuring our marketing).
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in California, you may have rights to know, delete, and opt out of "sale/sharing" (we do not sell your data). To exercise any right, email besidebirth@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
7. Marketing & unsubscribe
Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Transactional messages (like login or account emails) may still be sent as needed to provide the service.
8. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account/subscription is active and as needed to provide the service, then for a reasonable period to meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
9. International transfers
We and some of our providers are located in, or process data in, countries including the United States. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required.
10. Children
Beside Birth is intended for adults. It is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect information from, children under the age of 16 (or the applicable age in your country).
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Not medical advice
Beside Birth provides supportive education, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. For any medical concern, contact your midwife, doctor, or maternity unit. See our Terms for more.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated date, and, where appropriate, notify you.
